Ok, so yesterday was my Birthday!! Yeah!!! And, to make my B-day even better, I share it with my beautiful neice- One of my beautiful neices, anyway. She was born on my B-day, and for some reason, I think thats pretty much one of the highlights of my life. I love all my neices and nephews. I even love the newly hormonal teenager, that rolls her eyes everytime I speak to her and cries everytime I don't. Ok, so back to my neice with the birthday... I didnt really know what to get her because I dont get to see her that often so I have no clue what she likes. That and the fact that I have 2 boys so Im clueless when it comes to girls. Grandma teaches me something new everyday...

So, this afternoon was just like any other afternoon. Perfectly normal, until I look out my front door and my husbands Grandmother is laying in the middle of the driveway beside my sons Razor scooter he had gotten for Christmas. All I could think is my son was playing on our really steep, downhill driveway and was going too fast and ran smack into her while she was walking. As I was making my way up the driveway, I realize he is nowhere in sight, so then I was really confused. She was sitting up by this time rubbing her knee and I ask her, "Did you fall?" And she looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Yes, I fell off the scooter"... So I ask " What were you doing on the scooter?!?! Thats crazy!!" She was still giving me the "whats wrong with you look" that my 11 year old gives me when he thinks Im being uncool because I wont let him do something really dangerous. She then explained to me that she had finished taking her walk around the block and the scooter was sitting there and she just wanted to see if she could ride it and when she hit the hill coming down the driveway, she thought it would be best to just let go of the scooter and fall because she didnt know how to stop it. A fact that should have been thought of before you took on a steep hill doing 15 MPH on a scooter made for a child. Obviously, it all made sense to her... I was the only one having a crazy fit over the incident. So, I helped her up and we made our way back to the house. When we got to the house, I was still thanking God she didnt break any bones and she was trying to show me her battle scars from the fall.

Now, she is safe at her house next door. I have spent the afternoon worried but my husband just called and checked on her hoping she wouldnt have much pain from her fall. Good News... No pain and she was still acting like it was something she does everyday. I wonder when the switch happened and we stopped doing the daring stunts and worrying our parents and grandparents? The tables have turned and I guess I should be proud she is still blessed with her courage to try new things. Maybe we all could learn a few things from Grandma... Act first, think later, take chances and have as much fun as you can until you just have to let go..
